POLITICS AND CORRUPTION – by HenryEvans

“I weep for the liberty of
my country when I see at
this early day of its successful
experiment that corruption has been
imputed to many members of the house
of Representatives, and the rights of
the people have been bartered for
promises of office”
-Andrew Jacson –

“Money and corruption are running the land, crooked politicians betray the working man, pocketing the profits and treating us like sheep, and we’re tired of hearing promises that we know they’ll never keep” -Ray –Davies-

Over the years, power, money and greed have corrupted our elected government officials at every level and nation. What’s most alarming is the blatant Corruption running rampant in virtually all the countries of the world yet it is being tolerated by the people. Quoting the words of James Garfield the 20th president of the United States of America which says;

“The people are responsible for the character of their congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature”

We need a federal government that will place the interests of the public before petty disagreements and personal agendas. We must hold our elected officials accountable for the deteriorating state of our country. Spread the words among your friend contact your congressmen and ask them what they’re doing to end the divisive politics corrupting our government. This political corrupt system is one of the major reasons why some people took to crime and sworn to live their life on corruption.
It pains me to see a body whose duty is to protect its citizen and help to fight corruption being an agent of what they are meant to fight. What do you expect a poor man living with not less than one dollar per day to do when he sees the amounts of millions and billons our politicians spend and loop from the country? Such incident occurred at a state in Nigeria where a governor who his duty was to protect the image of the state and foster development of the state was apprehended in London transporting over 50 billion naira and I ask what will a man and his families do with such an amount? Moreover these were the money meant for the development of the state. Thanks to the law enforcement agency that took up the case and treat him according to the law.
This is one of the reasons why the rise in corruption keeps increasing by the day, and it has also created a big gap between the rich and the poor the rich keeps on becoming richer while the poor keeps on becoming poorer. It has also gone as far as effecting the belief and mentality of people. The good ones are rushing into crime in their higher rate while the bad one’s keeps on going deeper into crime and if not attended to, time shall come when the lawlessness of some nations will lead their government into the state of anarchy where the citizens will be left to make their own law and lead their selves. Yet each day that passes, they won’t stop reminding the masses the importance of fighting the corruption they helped in creating.

Thomas Jefferson went further to stress the act and effect of the political corrupt system which he calls a tyranny, he says; “Experience has shown, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have in one time and by slow operations, perverted it into a tyranny”.
It includes a favoritism and practically motivated distribution of financial and material inducement, benefits, advantages and spoils.
How will a nation grow when few greedy self centered politicians embezzle the money that would have been use to develop the nation? In camouflage, they will say that they love the nation and have their interest at hand. It is a good thing to know that in the arena of human life, the honors’ and rewards fall to those who show their good qualities in action. The actions we take over an Issue will determine the possible result
We will get. For our nation to grow big and beyond, both the politicians and citizens will have to stand and dispose their good qualities to its fullness; And how far that little candle throws its beams, so shines a good deed in a naughty world.
